Robert Pileggi Bio

Robert Pileggi was born in New Haven, Connecticut on April 7, 1960. He was the oldest of four boys and his parents were both teachers. His Mother taught the second grade and his Father was a Science teacher. He was raised in the Northeast United States in Maine and Connecticut; but most of his life he spent in New York. At the age of seven, Bobby first started writing poetry. Influenced by the tragedies of the Vietnam War and President John F. Kennedy’s assassination, Bobby Pileggi discovered that poetry could be an important vehicle towards self-expression and creativity fulfillment. Pileggi also had a vibrant connection and affection towards music. At the age of eleven he started playing the drums and later on performed in several rock bands. “I was born in the right place and at the right time. Being a product of the sixties, I had the blessings and the exposure of close to five decades of music; all in one lifetime. Music was the inspiration all throughout my youth and now the fuel and passion towards my future.”

Bobby graduated from Huntington High School in 1973, and attended college at the State University of Stony Brook, majoring in English. In 1978, he set out on his long voyage in life as a disc jockey by working first for DiscoVan 2000™; an upscale mobile disc jockey service located in the heart of New York City. From DiscoVan 2000, Pileggi learned the business of entertainment and the power of the turntables. One year later he ventured off into night life of New York City working as a Club D.J. Amongst the long list of night clubs that he performed at included the legendary Studio 54, Xenon’s, Magique, Area, 3D, Regine’s and the Blue Dahlia.

In November of 1982, Pileggi became frustrated with the club scene and took the next step towards moving forward. He opened up his own professional mobile disc jockey service and called the Disc*Connection. Combining the elements of running a business and continuing on his journey with music, Bobby discovered a new adventure to his life…”Going Mobile”. No longer did he have to work in night clubs. Now Pileggi could spin and be selective about his clients. In 1983, he became the house D.J. at the posh and chic Manhattan establishment, The Water Club. Entertaining only the wealthiest of clients in New York City; this was the challenge and the reward that he had been looking for.

From then on it was up the ladder of musical success. In 1985, Bobby Pileggi met Mr. David Janelli, the head meeting planner for the financially established Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, located in New York City. Met Life introduced Bobby to the world of corporate entertainment and travel. Now traveling over 250,000 miles a year, Bobby met with the biggest and the best of clients. In the last twenty five years of his life  he has performed for countless celebrities; most of the Fortune 500 companies and many impressive political figures. Some of the names you might recognize; Frank Sinatra, Steve Winn, Clive Davis, Celine Dion, President Clinton, George Burns, Former New York City’s Mayor Edward Koch, Whitney Houston and many, many more. Pileggi also had worked as the musical director for three of the country’s top interactive dance and theatrical production troupes; Le Clique, Le Masquerade, and Zanadu… and all at the same time! As their musical director, Bobby would travel around the world with 30 dancers, (mostly women) performing Broadway production numbers for corporate America. He had it all!

In 1991, Bobby started feeling the hurdles of entertainment and travel by experiencing compromised health. Routinely, he had been traveling to Greece and Asia for holiday; but something was missing in his life. He needed to grow more, and whatever this change would be it had to have one prerequisite; it had to deal with music…the fuel and the passion to his life’s breath.

That same year, Pileggi stumbled onto the Hawaiian island of Moloka’i. It’s a tiny island, know as the “Friendly Isle” with a population of little over 7,000 people. There he found inner peace and managed to get his health back. In the years to follow Bobby kept on returning to Molokai to write poetry and learn more about the "aloha" and the “mana” of the Hawaiian people. In 1996, Pileggi teamed up with Molokai’s most respected musician, Mr. Sterling Kalua. Creatively, Sterling had managed to do what Bobby was trying to accomplish ever since he was seven years old. Sterling had the ability to put Pileggi’s poetic words into musical motion. Then in 1997, Bobby met veteran producer/musician Bradley E. Thayne and established Molokai’s first record label and recording studio. They called it “Monkeypod”

Since 1998, Bobby Pileggi now lives where he wants to be and not where he has to be; Molokai. He has produced and co-written over six albums including, “Molokai Now,”  “Shaka the Moon,” “Feel the Mana” and “Someday.” In 2000, Pileggi lost his best friend and partner at Monkeypod Records, Mr. Bradley E. Thayne to esophageal cancer. After Brad’s passing Pileggi continued to keep the label alive by perpetuating Thayne’s dream and since then he has produced two National Billboard Top 10 dance hits, “Master Blaster” (Jammin’) and “I Want My Island Girl;” an original title written by Bobby Pileggi and Chris Pati. Pileggi and his stable writing partner Sterling Kalua have written over a dozen #1 hits including “Where They Stay”,  “Da Kine,” “Shaka the Moon,” “Someday” and “Two Hands and a Prayer.” He has also opened the doors to publishing and licensing in Japan with over a dozen compilation CD projects to his credit.

Now in 2008, Bobby Pileggi has earned a title in Hawaii as an established songwriter, a prominent music publisher, record producer and promoter. He still D.J.’s  the biggest and the grandest of events around the world and boasts of his client’s longevity. (Some clients go back as far as 20 years!) On Molokai, Bobby Pileggi has learned how to put it all together... His love of music,  his passion for poetry, and his personality for business. “Sometimes dreams can come true.”  This time it happened on Molokai for New Yorker, Bobby Pileggi and there is still more waiting ahead for him in the not too distant future…”It is my every intention and relentless conviction to open up the musical doors of recognition for Hawaii and her music. It is already happening through my music publishing. Once that is accomplished, my work is almost complete. I say almost because Sterling and I still need to write an additional 1,500 more songs to satisfy... he smiles..."My Pilegacy”. Aloha!
